Haines named to State Jr. Fair Board

She joins other students age 16-20 who will come together during the fair’s run July 26 through Aug. 6 to serve the people of the Ohio State Fair, interact with fair-goers, help other agencies and organizations with their tasks and booths at the fair, and gain networking experiences and special opportunities.
Board members also fill the roles of welcoming officials at livestock shows, serving as assistants for the animatronic Smokey Bear in the Natural Resources area; working the Monster Mural, an interactive art display; and serving as concert ushers at the Celeste Center.
“The Ohio State Fair Junior Fair Board is made up of our great state’s best and brightest young leaders, hand-picked to contribute to the success of the Ohio State Fair each year,” according to the Ohio State Junior Fair Board website.
Selected to represent their respective youth organizations, these students serve on behalf of thousands of students across Ohio. As ambassadors for 4-H, FFA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Farm Bureau, they are able to share their experiences and emphasize the value of the junior fair with patrons throughout the 12 days of the fair.
A Smithville High School graduate and member of the Smithville FFA, Haines will represent the FFA organization. A 4-Her for more than 10 years, Haines also serves on the Wayne County Junior Fair Board, Wayne County Food and Fashion Board, and Wayne County 4-H Awareness Team and also is a 4-H Junior Camp and 4-H Cloverbud counselor. She is a member of the Smithie Whiz Kids 4-H Club.
She was chosen for the Ohio State Junior Fair Board based on her skills in leadership, public speaking, communication, professionalism, flexibility, responsibility and adaptability.
Haines said selection for the board is a high honor and is a major accomplishment in her agricultural career.
A sophomore at Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute majoring in agribusiness, Haines serves as an intern in the Wayne County office of Ohio State University Extension.
