The Wayne County Health Department, in collaboration with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, will begin to host a pop-up food pantry every second Tuesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the first one starting July 9.

The location for the pop-up pantry will be in the parking lot of the health department offices at 244 W. South St. in Wooster. Individuals and families can receive food if their income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level ($30,120 per year for individuals and adding $10,760 per year for each additional family member). For example, a family of four whose annual household income is $62,400 or less would be eligible.

“Food insecurity is a major public health problem, not just in our community, but in the entire country,” said Dr. Nick Cascarelli, Wayne County health commissioner. “We are fortunate to have the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank serve our community, and the opportunity to collaborate with them to provide basic needs for our residents, for us, is a no-brainer.”

The Wayne County Health Department also is looking for volunteers to help with the pop-up pantries. Volunteers would need to be able to be there an hour before and a half-hour after the food pantry, in addition to the actual pantry itself. For more information or to volunteer, visit www.wayne-health.org or call 330-264-9590 ext. 207.
