Fort Laurens will continue its 2018 Free Speaker Series event on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. in the Fort Laurens Museum auditorium.

Andrew Richmond will discuss the milestones of Ohio’s first century from the legal settlement of Marietta in 1788 to the celebration of the Northwest Territory centennial in 1888.

Richmond will use 10 cultural artifacts representing individuals, movements and moments in time that collectively weave a story of Ohio’s early years. This lecture is inspired by the British Museum’s serial podcast, “A History of the World in 100 Objects.”

Richmond is the president and CEO of Wipiak Consulting and Appraisals in Marietta. He holds degrees in history and American material culture from Kenyon College and the University of Delaware. Prior to becoming an antiques and fine arts appraiser, he worked in auctions, helping to sell items ranging from million-dollar paintings to Benjamin Franklin’s pocket watch.
