Holmes County Fair queen and king roles up for grabs

Another crop of talented members of Holmes County’s 4-H program will vie for the right to serve as royalty during the annual Holmes County Fair queen and king contest this year.

The coronation of the new king and queen will take place Monday, Aug. 4 in the large arena at Harvest Ridge, where current Queen Jenna Sheldon and King Quentin Vehrs will enjoy their final moments and hand over the reins to this year’s winners.

Among those running for queen will be a pair of young women.

Cassidy Holasek is the daughter of Fred and Theresa Holasek. She will be a senior at West Holmes High School in the fall. This year she will show a market hog, market goat and market broilers through the West Holmes FFA Chapter. She is involved in soccer, basketball, History Club, FFA and student leadership.

Madison Ringwalt is the daughter of Brad and Kathy Ringwalt. She will be a senior at West Holmes High School in the fall. This year she will show a market hog through the Killbuck Handy Helpers 4-H Club. She is involved in the Beloved Ministries Youth Group, Killbuck First Church of Christ as the parliamentarian, West Holmes FFA as the president and Killbuck Handy Helpers 4-H Club as the vice president.

Three young men will vie for the role of fair king.

Tristan Houin is the son of Craig and Jane Houin. He will be a senior at West Holmes High School in the fall. This year he will show a horse, market hog, market lamb and market rabbits through the Nashville Jolly Farmers 4-H Club. He is involved in Boy Scouts, the Nashville Jolly Farmers 4-H Club, West Holmes High School band, West Holmes High School broadcasting, Ohio High School Rodeo Association and West Holmes boys bowling.

Logan Van Dalen is the son of Dustin and Jess Patterson. He will be a senior at West Holmes High School in the fall. He is an active member of the West Holmes FFA Chapter, participating in ag sales, dairy cattle judging, small engines and ag mechanic events.

Miles Mallasch is the son of Amanda and Matthew Mallasch. He will be a senior at West Holmes High School in the fall. This year he will show a market hog through the Nashville Jolly Farmers 4-H Club. He is involved in competitive robotics, boys soccer and Holmes County 4-H Camp as a counselor.

The public is invited to attend the coronation on Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. to help usher in the newest group of Holmes County Fair royalty.
