Library classes shed light on upcoming solar eclipse
The Wayne County Public Library will offer free activities and classes at all locations in anticipation of the total solar eclipse on April 8. The library will distribute free eclipse glasses beginning Friday, March 1 on a first come, first served basis with a limit of two pairs per family.
Speakers are lined up for the events providing opportunities for all ages to learn about eclipses and how to view them safely.
“We have an opportunity to experience a total solar eclipse, an incredibly rare and spectacular event,” said Hayley Tracy-Bursley, the assistant library director. “These programs are designed to make this extraordinary moment even more memorable.”
Here are the classes and the branches where they will be held:
—All About the Solar Eclipse. The Hoover-Price Planetarium director will teach the science behind eclipses, timeline for the eclipse, guidelines for safe viewing and how past civilizations viewed solar eclipses at Creston on March 25 at 4 p.m. and at Shreve on March 28 at 6:30 p.m. All ages may attend.
—Solar Eclipse 2024 with The Nature Center. Understand the eclipse and safe viewing at Wooster on April 2 at 6 p.m. This is for adults.
—Eclipse Excitement. This includes eclipse-themed crafts at Shreve on April 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children of all ages.
—The Great American Eclipse Show by Whiz Bang Science at Wooster on April 6 from 11 a.m. to noon for families.
—Solar Eclipse Watch Party. This includes activities and viewing on a first come, first served basis at Wooster on April 8 from 2-3:30 p.m. for all ages.
