Local Girl Scouts part of 'World Thinking Day'
The Wooster Girl Scouts Service Unit recently held “Girl Scouts World Thinking Day 2021,” with seven troops (643, 1348, 1695, 2173, 3559, 3601, 4235) taking part.
The countries studied this year were Australia, Brazil, Norway, Rwanda and Switzerland. The girls learned about the flag of each country, as well as the animals, religion, currency, climate, capital, and products and industry. They also learned about the people there.
The scouts in those countries are called Girl Guides, and there are five World Centres — Our Cabana, Mexico; Our Chalet, Switzerland; Pax Lodge, UK; Sangam, India; and Kusafiri, Africa. The local Girls Scouts received information on all these centers.
The World Centres are an integral part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) mission to help girls and young women gain life experience and personal development opportunities so they can go on to reach their full potential and be active, engaged and responsible citizens of the world.
This year, because of COVID-19, the girls worked on at home or in troop meetings. After they were done, they had to turn in the quilt patch they drew on and a paragraph on what she learned. The quilt squares were put together to make a hanging quilt and donated.
There were 48 Girl Scouts from seven troops who took part.
