Next Civil War Round Table Oct. 18
The Wayne County Civil War Round Table will hold its next program on Oct. 18 at 6:20 p.m. at the Wooster branch of the Wayne County Public Library. CWRT programs are free and open to the public.
Anita Benedetti will present the program, portraying Lucretia Garfield, the wife of James A. Garfield, the Ohio native who served as the 20th U.S. president.
Garfield was a scholar, teacher, wife, mother, family mainstay and nurturer. It wasn’t easy being married to “The General,” and Garfield had her trials and tribulations, but her love and faithfulness became admired by all of America when her husband was mortally wounded in 1881, just four months into his administration.
Benedetti is a Cleveland native who has worked in both the private and public sectors, beginning her interest in costumed interpretations while working at the Cuyahoga County Public Library. She began volunteering in the office at Lake View Cemetery in May 1995, which is when she first appeared as Mrs. Garfield, and she continues to be involved there as a docent and guide. Her portrayal of Garfield allows people to get to know the presidential family from a more intimate point of view.
In addition to its membership, the CWRT is sponsored by the Wayne County Public Library, R.W. Gasbarre & Assoc. Surveyors and John Spaziani.
