Orrville library summer reading program begins
Orrville Public Library’s summer reading theme, “Imagine Your Story,” is very fitting for the current world. This year’s program will be a little different than other years, but participants will still have the opportunity to read books and earn prizes.
All ages will track their reading using the online platform, Beanstack. The site can be accessed through the library website at www.orrville.lib.oh.us or at orrville.beanstack.org. There also is a Beanstack Tracker app to download. Those who don’t have access to a computer can still participate. Call the library at 330-683-1065 for assistance.
Children through grade 6 will keep track of how many minutes they spend reading or being read to. When 60 minutes are reached, they will earn a virtual badge. When eight hours of reading are completed, they will earn a free paperback book as a prize. Activity badges also can be earned by completing specific activities each week.
Those in grade 6-12 also will log books and do activities to earn badges. Ten badges will complete the program. When completed, a prize will be earned and a ticket will be received for the grand-prize drawing. Additional tickets can be earned by doing extra reading and activities.
Those age 18 and over have the option to read or listen to books. Every book that is logged into Beanstack will earn a ticket for the grand-prize drawing.
The program began Monday, June 15 and will continue through Aug. 8. The library will pull books from its shelves to help people with their reading challenges. Call the library at 330-683-1065, beginning at 11 a.m. each day, to make requests, and the books will be ready for pickup at the library’s drive-up window.
Orrville Public Library welcomed Michelle Hedberg to its board of trustees. She was an adult education instructor for 17 years and currently serves as the membership services coordinator at the Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce. She also teaches YMCA fitness, does probate freelance work, and is involved in a variety of local organizations and committees. Her family includes her husband, Mike, as well as two sons, a daughter-in-law and a granddaughter. In their spare time, the family enjoys flipping houses.
“The Orrville Public Library is a great place for our community with many resources for all ages,” Hedberg said. “Serving on the board fulfills my love of helping people succeed, lifelong learning and love of children.”
Hedberg joins Norman Miller, Beth Haislip, Shane Scarbrough, Rich Thomas, Dr. Heather Howley and Lynn Horner on the seven-member board.
