Pickleball courts at Christmas Run approved by City Council
The Wooster City Council meeting on Sept. 18 involved a series of first readings on resolutions for a variety of improvements in the city.
These resolutions included approval and acceptance of a donation for $50,000 for the construction of six pickleball courts at Christmas Run Park. If approved, the city will pay an additional $150,000 of existing budgeted funds for a total cost of $200,000.
The city also is planning for replacement of sanitary sewer linings for a total cost of $700,000 — $500,000 of which would be paid for by the Ohio Public Works Commission. The city would be responsible for the remaining $200,000. In addition to this project, there was a first reading on accepting bids for a headworks improvement project at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The city also is seeking to enter into an engineering contract for UV design at the Wastewater Treatment Plant at a cost of $139,540.
Several improvements are proposed for the downtown area including a streetscape project along portions of Walnut Street, the purchase of a lot adjacent to City Hall and Fire Station 1, and a parcel to expand parking on North Street.
Additionally, there are proposals to replace traffic signals at Quinby Avenue and Bowman Street and Quinby Avenue and Wayne Avenue and to improve curb ramps on portions of Oak Hill Road. U.S. Route 30 also would get a signage upgrade within city limits if council approves such expenditures. Council also approved a resolution upping the bid requirement to $75,000 and raising that amount by 3% each Jan. 1, beginning in 2025.
Finally, the city received notice from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control that Leroy’s has applied for a permit to sell liquor. The business is located at 400 Palmer St. The deadline to request a hearing on that permit is Oct. 10.
The next meeting of council is Monday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall.
