New Philadelphia Police Reports Dec. 16-26
On Dec. 16 a traffic stop at North Avenue resulted in a positive K-9 alert for illegal substances. The driver was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, and substances resembling drugs that were found in the vehicle were sent away for testing.
On Dec. 20 a K-9 was requested during a traffic stop, which resulted in a positive alert on the vehicle, which was subsequently searched. A small amount of drug paraphernalia was found along with ammo in the back seat near a person prohibited from possessing firearms or ordinance. The driver was cited for driving under suspension and given a court date of Jan. 5, 2025.
A caller on Dec. 18 reported finding a female in his residence at 214 First Drive NW who was not supposed to be there. A responding officer accompanied the female to the hospital for treatment and served her with a summons to appear in court for disorderly conduct/intoxication.
A welfare check was conducted at 229 First Drive NW on Dec. 18 regarding two male juveniles who had been inside the store. One boy appeared to be intoxicated, as he was lying on the floor in an incoherent state. Another unit on patrol spotted the subjects in the 100 Block of Beech Lane. A unit was called for assistance at the store, and another was asked to contact the boys’ parents.
Dispatch received a report of a pole building being broken into and copper pipe stolen on Dec. 19 at Carpenter Heating & Cooling, 946 Cookson Ave. SE. The caller said they had video to show to law enforcement. Footage was requested, and statement forms were left at the location. Officers checked with Carolina Stair to see if its video had captured any images of a possible suspect, but they were told nothing was there.
On Dec. 20 police responded to a disturbance call at 777 Ray Ave. NW. The caller said a fight between two brothers was in progress over one of them trying to hit a minor with a belt. Drugs were found on one of the male subjects. A call was made to the sheriff’s department requesting assistance. One male was taken into custody for domestic violence while the other male was released.
A 911 call was made Dec. 20 from Walmart on Bluebell Drive advising police of an intoxicated man making a scene near the fitting rooms. The man was intercepted at the grocery side doors and taken to the county jail on a warrant out of Holmes County for failure to appear on a theft charge. The subject was extradited to Holmes County following an eight-hour hold at the jail.
On Dec. 21 a call was made stating the driver of a brown Mazda had struck their vehicles and then driven to 589 Ridge Ave. NE. The driver was located and transported to the Ohio State Highway Patrol post for a Breathalyzer test.
On Dec. 22 a woman called in asking for assistance removing her mother from the residence. She said her mother was intoxicated and fighting with her verbally. The caller said her children were outside in a vehicle because she did not want to bring them into the situation. The caller’s mother was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication and resisting arrest.
