Rotary flag project underway
Members of the Rotary Club of New Philadelphia are unfurling their flags for the 12th annual Salute Freedom Project. Nearly 200 American flags will be placed at homes and businesses in New Philadelphia in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The flags will stay in place throughout the summer and fall holidays and come down for the winter after Veterans Day in November. The fee to participate is a $30 donation to the Rotary Club to offset their expenses.
In addition to placing flags at homes and businesses, Rotarians put up dozens of flags in the downtown square area and along North Broadway adjacent to Tuscora Park. This is a donation by the Rotary Club to the New Philadelphia community, according to project co-chair Tom Police.
“The flags displayed in downtown and by Tuscora Park always draw many compliments,” Police said. “Thanks to some generous donors to the project and the ladder work of a couple of Rotarians, the red, white and blue colors of the flags create an inspiring salute to the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.”
Project co-chairman Mark Garrison coordinates the Salute Freedom subscriptions and installation routes.
“We encourage those renewing from last year or who want to become a new flag subscriber to use the online website to sign up and make their payment through a secure pay site,” Garrison said.
The project’s web page is at app.helpingwithflags.com/New-Phil-Rotary.
Flags in the Salute Freedom Project are placed only within the New Philadelphia city limits.
“We have email addresses for many of our past subscribers, and they should have already received their renewal information in that manner,” Garrison said. “The rest of last year’s subscribers have been sent a paper renewal form in the U.S. mail.”
Garrison said paper forms also can be downloaded from the project’s website for both new and renewing subscribers who prefer to send a check in the mail.
