The American Legion to meet monthly
The Dover American Legion Post 205 meets the first Monday of every month at 7 p.m. at Memorial Hall.
A scholarship fund has been established in the memory of the late Jack Reese. The winners of this year’s Jack Reese Memorial Scholarships were announced May 3 at the Dover High School auditorium. They are Julia Weaver, Katelyn Nitz, Grace Williams and Isabella Barr.
Post members will distribute poppies at Buehler’s Fresh Foods in Dover on May 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations raised will be used for the Jack Reese Memorial Scholarship Fund and community projects.
The Memorial Day Ceremony, with Dover American Legion Post 205 Cmdr. Kevin Thomas serving as master of ceremonies, will be held Monday, May 30 at the Maple Grove Cemetery, beginning at 10 a.m.
The guest speaker will be Ron Crabtree, commander of the New Philadelphia American Legion Post 139. Other participants will be eighth-grade students from Dover. Grant Mathias will recite “The Gettysburg Address,” and Laney Gottshall will recite “Flanders Fields.” The Dover High School band and the Dover High School choir also will perform. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at Memorial Hall.
The color guard, which will march at the Canal Dover Days Parade, will present the colors and act as honor guard at the Memorial Day Ceremony.
