Village will not install handicapped parking place
Village Administrator Kevin Kaser told Sugarcreek Council on March 17 it was decided not to install a handicapped parking place on Ohio 93 after speaking with officials at the Shanesville Lutheran Church.
“After we looked at the area, it is just too dangerous with the traffic, especially truck traffic, to try and install a handicap parking place. It might be OK on Sunday but not during the week,” Kaser said. “I did suggest to put on four-way flashers to allow those that are handicapped to exit their vehicle or put up cones and remove them after the church service. Parking is available in the Hamsher Insurance parking lot on Sundays.”
Matt Miller, chairman of the streets, water and sewer committee, said the village engineer informed the village the lift station near Skyline Drive on Ohio 93 is near capacity and is not sufficient to handle the flow from a new school being proposed to be constructed on 3.2 acres off Skyline Drive.
He said the lift station cannot handle the flow during the day; however, the school can install a holding tank and pump it at night. Miller said the school officials could help fund some of the project if needed. The streets, water and sewer committee will meet April 7 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the matter.
