Letter to the Editor:
For a number of reasons revolving around my occupation, I believe the proposed site for New Philadelphia’s school buildings at the current Oak Shadows property is a good one.
In the first instance, having all students in two buildings at one site is best for safety and security. New Philadelphia’s safety forces can keep all students more secure in this type of setting than in the current situation of multiple buildings at various sites.
Secondly, under a one-campus plan the New Philadelphia police officer who serves as the school’s resource officer will be much more effective both proactively and reactively in the case of an emergency.
The traffic situation will be better at the proposed site than at the current school buildings. We will be able to control the traffic with the access highways and with the longer private roads the district has proposed in its master plan for the Oak Shadows property. The proposed traffic solutions will be positive and will allow for flexibility to make improvements and adjustments if the need arises.
The safety and protection of New Philadelphia and its citizens is my paramount responsibility. For our student citizens, new school buildings at one location will go a long way toward making my obligation more manageable.
Please vote in favor of Issue 4 on the March 17 primary election ballot.
