WCHS combining CWRT, dinner fundraiser
The Wayne County Historical Society will hold a dinner fundraiser and Civil War Round Table on Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the WCHS schoolhouse on the campus located at 546 E. Bowman St. in Wooster.
Presenter of the CWRT is Van Young, whose program will be A Pictorial Visit to the Gettysburg Battlefield. Over three days in July 1863, the bloodiest and arguably most significant battle in the Civil War took place in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Young’s talk provides a pictorial tour of the Gettysburg National Battlefield including many of the monuments, sights and structures.
Young was born and raised in Ohio and has been a resident of Columbus for 40 years. Since his retirement in 2012, one of his retirement goals was to spend time studying and learning about the Civil War. He is active in two Central Ohio Civil War organizations and is currently president of the Griswold History Study Group, which meets Monday mornings at the Worthington Senior Center.
Young has presented to several area history groups and senior centers on Civil War topics and other American historical events. He looks forward to visiting many of the battlefields and museums associated with the Civil War.
The fundraiser includes seven soups along with bread and salad. There also will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with dinner at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 6:15 p.m. The suggested donation is $25, with only 48 tickets available.
