The 910th Airlift Wing launched a second ‘Hercs Over America’ flyover on Thursday, May 7, which included Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital at Dover.

The 910th Airlift Wing is an Air Force reserve unit, stationed at Youngstown Air Reserve Station. It flies C-130H Hercules aircraft on airlift and aerial spray missions.

The flyover was a way for the Air Force Reserve family to continue to salute the thousands of health care workers, essential employees and other emergency responders on the front line of the battle against COVID-19.

The 910th received a positive response from its ‘Hercs Over America’ flyover held on May 4. Since only a limited number of medical facilities could be flown over earlier in the week, the 910th built a list of additional facilities based on feedback received from the wing’s community partners and social media followers to conduct a second salute flyover.

The 910th Airlift Wing Public Affairs Office contacted each of the locations directly to notify them of the approximate timeframe the flyover salutes would occur so they could alert staff to the timely tribute.

"This all came together so quickly," said Darrin Lautenschleger director of community relations for Cleveland Clinic Union Hospistal. "They gave us an approximate time last night and confirmed it this morning. The community support for area health care workers has just been incredible and this is just another example of that."

Area residents and employees of the hospital including hospital CEO, Bruce James along with employees of surrounding businesses practiced social distancing and were able to see the flyover from the parking lots in and around the hospital campus.

The 910th’s aircraft second ‘Hercs Over America’ over Ohio’s North Shore area began with flyovers at University Hospitals Conneaut Medical Center in Conneaut, Ashtabula County Medical Center in Ashtabula, University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center in Geneva, TriPoint Medical Center in Painesville, Cleveland Clinic – Euclid Hospital and University Hospitals Euclid Health Center in Euclid and Cleveland Clinic Hill Crest Hospital in Mayfield Heights.

The C-130s will then headed to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Summa Health Akron City Hospital in Akron, Aultman Hospital in Canton, Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover, Aultman Alliance Community Hospital in Alliance, Salem Regional Medical Center in Salem and East Liverpool City Hospital in East Liverpool, UPMC Jameson in New Castle, Pennsylvania; UPMC Horizon – Shenango Valley in Farrell, Pennsylvania and Sharon Regional Medical Center in Sharon, Pennsylvania.

The 910th aircraft concluded this ‘Hercs Over America’ flyover in the skies of the Mahoning Valley with flyovers above Southwoods Medical Campus and Akron Children’s Hospital Beeghly Campus in Boardman, as well as Trumbull Regional Medical Center, Trumbull Memorial Hospital and Hillside Rehabilitation Center in Warren.

As with many Air Force Reserve community engagement flying activities, these flyovers were scheduled to occur during one of the wing’s training missions and incurred no additional cost to taxpayers.

The Reserve Citizen Airmen of the 910th said are proud to serve alongside emergency responders and essential personnel in the battle against COVID-19.
