Boo in the Burg scares up some fun events for all
Boo in the Burg in Historic Downtown Millersburg will start with the clash of cymbals, the tantara of the trumpet and a host of children decked out in their Halloween finest on Thursday, Oct. 26, and it will culminate with an evening of fellowship and revelry featuring offerings from area breweries and wineries on Saturday, Oct. 28.
In celebrating Halloween, HDM rolls out the red carpet annually, first with the annual Halloween parade on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., then two days later on Oct. 28 with the annual taste test extravaganza from 6-9 p.m.
“Both evenings are always a lot of fun, and we love celebrating Halloween with the community,” said Judy Lamp, HDM executive director.
The grand parade is designed to give both kids and adults a chance to pick out their favorite costumes and parade through Millersburg, where plenty of people will pack the streets to watch the march through town.
Over the years the parade has seen plenty of creative costumes, from giant dinosaurs to colorful sets of crayons and a bevy of basic animals, ghosts and goblins, sports figures and more.
Of course, this parade would never be complete without the West Holmes marching band, whose players always look forward to stepping out of their basic band uniforms in exchange for a uniform of their own creation. The band members will glow — literally — and will present several numbers that continue to showcase a band that has gained statewide fame.
“The Knights band is the best,” Lamp said. “They add so much to the parade, and I know the kids love dressing up because it’s such a unique evening for them to perform.”
Every child who participates in the parade will receive a goody bag of treats and toys, courtesy of HDM and the Millersburg Eagles.
“What can you say about our Eagles? They are a wonderful supporter of Millersburg and the community and step up in so many ways,” Lamp said. “They are so creative in the ways they support everything we do.”
Anyone participating in the parade should meet on Monroe Street on the south side of the courthouse prior to the 7 p.m. start time.
Boo in the Burg switches from family-oriented entertainment to something built for the adults on Saturday. From 6-9 p.m. four local breweries and eight area wineries will provide their finest offerings for an evening of taste testing under two large tents in the Commercial & Savings Bank parking lot behind the Chamber of Commerce.
A ticket for $30 gets patrons age 21 and older into the taste-testing tents, where they will try many of the samples on display form the breweries and wineries.
In addition, there will be food trucks, and the band Borderline will play live music throughout the evening. Troyer’s Candies will join the fun by providing chocolate-covered pumpkin candy, something Lamp said people will have to try to truly understand how good it tastes.
There also will be a local dance team that will present a performance coinciding with the Halloween theme, and they will perform on the square and then in the tent area.
“This is a really fun evening of fellowshipping together, and best of all, the proceeds from the evening will all go toward supporting our upcoming Historic Downtown Millersburg Children’s Christmas Night that is always a highlight for area families,” Lamp said.
