Local restaurant Broken Rocks Cafe & Bakery will host a visit from “America’s Best Restaurants” in early January.

“America’s Best Restaurants,” a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the downtown Wooster restaurant on Jan. 8. Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owners Glen and Lisa Grumbling about the restaurant’s place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.

The Grumblings opened Broken Rocks Cafe & Bakery in Loudonville in 2000 and relocated to Wooster seven years later to have a larger space. With a modern-rustic vibe, the eatery offers upscale gastropub-style dishes and baked-daily artisan breads, made with a starter from wild grapes that Glen Grumbling obtained from the Broken Rocks area of Michigan. The menu offers a selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, entrées, pastas and pizza.

While Glen Grumbling enjoys making seasonal dishes, he said the most popular menu items are the Cajun pasta with a spicy cream sauce, a pan-fried fish sandwich with a lemon-pepper sauce and a molasses-glazed brisket served over polenta corn cakes. The Grumblings also own Rox Gastropub next door to Broken Rocks.

“Our biggest challenge is to get people through the door the first time,” Grumbling said. “Once they come through, they almost invariably come back.”

Broken Rocks Cafe & Bakery won the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year in 2021.

“America’s Best Restaurants” will film on location on Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon. The restaurant’s finished episode premiere date will be announced on its Facebook page and will be featured on the “America’s Best Restaurants” website.

Restaurants featured on the ABR Roadshow are selected based on their customer reviews, menu items, social media presence and level of involvement with their community. They are found through customer nominations, internal vetting or by a restaurant applying to be featured at www.americasbestrestaurants.com.

Open Tuesday through Saturday, Broken Rocks Cafe & Bakery is located at 123 E. Liberty St. For more information visit www.brokenrockscafe.com.
