Cameron Hinton and his goat, Zit, got all dolled up for the costume contest. Hinton said having fun with your animal is part of the fun of the Holmes County Fair.

Sometimes you just have to step outside of your comfort zone and roll with it.

On Friday, Aug. 13, Cameron Hinton didn’t look like a typical Holmes County Fair 4-Her, running around in shorts and a T-shirt, maybe sporting a ball cap or boots.

Instead, he was donning a colorful Hawaiian get-up, as was his goat, Zit, who joined him for a fun trip into the center ring of the showmanship arena.

Hinton, a member of the Nashville Jolly Farmers, decided to take a risk and get all dressed up for the costume competition in the Holmes County Junior Fair showmanship arena. The event was designed to be a far less stressful part of showing an animal, and he certainly drew plenty of sideways looks from people unaware of the competition.

“Zit is kind of a crazy goat, so I wanted to come up with something that was wild and crazy and colorful,” Hinton said of the costume. “I don’t mind getting up here and doing something different like this.”

Hinton himself was clad in a bright, flowery Hawaiian shirt, complete with a lei and a unique pineapple hat. Zit was likewise donning a similar outfit, and both seemed unfazed by the levity surrounding them.

For Hinton, spending time with Zit is something he cherishes, whether it is at home, during the actual showmanship and judging portions of the fair or simply clowning around.

“I love showing animals,” Hinton said. “I like that you have to keep working hard and trying to do your best with your animal.”
