Celebrating our agricultural heritage
The sights and sounds of a bygone era came to life once more on the campus of the Wayne County Historical Society May 23, as the society opened its latest exhibit – Yesteryear on the Farm.During the special opening ceremonies for the exhibit period tractors, pedal cars, a “Kid Wagon” and even a team of oxen filled the lawn in front of the historic Beall House on the society’s campus.
While the outdoor exhibits were unique to the opening day of the exhibit there’s still plenty for visitors to see, including everything from displays of the various types of farming enterprises to exhibits focusing on the service and social organizations important to farmers.
The Yesteryear on the Farm exhibit, which is sponsored by the Fredericksburg, Northwestern, Smithville and Westwood Ruritan clubs, will be open to the public through July 31, during the historical society’s regular museum hours of 1:30-4:30 p.m., on Fridays and Saturdays. Special tours can also be arranged by request.
