Family-friendly entertainment will grace the stage of the Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County as Cinderella opens Friday, Feb. 19, for a three-weekend run. With a fairy godmother and her magical wand, dancing mice, a transformed pumpkin, and a sparkling pair of glass slippers, this classic tale of rags to riches and true love’s triumph has been a favorite since it was first introduced in 1957. “This is a Rodgers and Hammerstein show,” explained Rex Huffman, who is directing Cinderella as his latest in a more than 20 production run of Little Theatre performances. “This is not the Disney movie. This show was originally written for TV and it starred Julie Andrews. It wasn’t until three or four years later that it was adapted for the stage.” Cinderella features such musical favorites as Ten Minutes Ago, In My Own Little Corner, and A Lovely Night. “We have so many new performers for this show,” Huffman continued. “They are probably one of the best casts I’ve had to work with, particularly because they’ve been so willing to learn and to work hard. “I chose Cinderella for several reasons. I like the music very much, and that played into it a lot. It is a very simple story. Cinderella is one of those shows you can bring the whole family to. I pride myself on bringing in a big audience by having something the community wants to see,” commented Huffman. “It is good to do something that the community will love and respond to.” Cinderella will be performed Feb. 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, and March 4, 5, 6. Evening show times are 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. The box office is open from 7-9 weeknights and 6-9 show nights, and on show days from noon to 2 p.m. and matinee days from 1-2:30. Tickets are $10 for adults and $9 for children under 12, with discounts of $1 per ticket for groups of 20 or more. To purchase tickets, visit the box office during open hours or call 330-343-4012. The Little Theatre is located at 466 Carrie Avenue, New Philadelphia.
