Classic Car Show back for 23rd year
Classic cars will fill the streets of downtown Loudonville Saturday, July 1 during the 23rd annual Classic Car Show.
The free event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature a wide variety of hot rods, muscle cars, antique cars and many others.
“Every year it seems to get a little bit bigger,” Loudonville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Valerie Spreng said. “Last year there were about 700 cars here, and we just line up the cars down Main Street, shut off the roads down through town and have a big old car show in downtown Loudonville.”
People bring cars from all over the United States to take part in the Classic Car Show, which has at least 500 entries most years.
“One of our awards is for longest distance,” Spreng said. “I have people that come from Florida. I think there was someone from North Dakota last year. There are people from all over that come to it.”
Since it’s a free event, Spreng said it’s hard to gauge how many spectators attend the event. But it provides quite an economic boon to the local community.
“The busyness of town (during the event) is like one of the days of the Loudonville Street Fair, so there are 1000s of people walking around,” she said. “A lot of people will plan their vacations to come to the Mohican area during the Fourth of July events and come to the Car Show. That’s the weekend that they come camping and that kind of stuff.”
The Classic Car Show coincides with the 23rd annual Antique Show, which will take place in Central Park on June 30 and July 1.
“You can bring dad down to see the cars and mom can go check out the antiques and arts and crafts or the kids (can),” Spreng said. “There’s just so much going on. We have DJs playing music. We have bounce houses for kids. There’s something for everybody. Everybody’s going to have a good time.”
The Classic Car Show has earned quite a reputation over the years. It was rated No. 1 in Top Ten Downtown Events in Cruisin’ Times Magazine in 2010, ’11, ’12, ’13 and ’15.
“There are so many different cars, and they are all so neat to look at,” Spreng said. “There’s stuff that you don’t see every day, so if you’re into checking out the classic cars and different things like that, there are so many different ones to check out and to see.”
