Salt & Honey, a boutique store focused on modesty-based clothing and gifts, has found its home at 147 N. Main St. in Orrville, a place near and dear to the hearts of its owners, Adeline and Alyssa Miller.

The mother-daughter duo began their venture into women’s clothing several years ago when a friend opened a small gift shop in Rittman. At that time the gift shop featured Christian-based books, cards and gifts. When the Millers became involved with the store, they added a few skirts and other women’s attire to offerings at the shop based on customer requests.

Over the years the business evolved to the point where the clothing aspect of the business seemed to be the biggest draw.

“We originally began offering clothing as a sort of service to the community,” said Adeline Miller, the Orrville store manager and daughter of the mother-daughter team. “People would hear about the fact we had modest clothing, and word of mouth drove people to visit the store from a wide area. We determined that the clothing was what people wanted, and it was our most popular offering. So we listened to our customers and focused on this part of the business.”

The move from Rittman to Orrville was precipitated by their increasing business and need for a bigger space.

“We had been looking for a spot to expand our retail space and saw that the storefront on Orrville’s Main Street was available,” said Alyssa Miller, the business owner and mother of the duo. “The location had everything we were looking for including an updated storage and office area in the back of the property. We knew we could make the space work for our business needs.”

Updating the space that had formerly housed the popular Audrey’s Attic, a longtime Orrville home decorating store that closed several years ago, became a family affair as the entire Miller family became involved in updating, painting and modernizing the space into what it is now. From the music that is playing in the store to the decor and color palette, the theme the store wants to portray to its customers is one of practical, calm and lovely clothing and gifts.

“We want the community to know that modest clothing can be classic and lovely and also that our clothing has an updated, modern feel while also being modest,” Adeline Miller said.

The Miller family has a deep connection to Orrville as their son Shem was involved in a serious accident several years ago while operating a stand-up mower, nearly losing his life and legs to the damage that was done. Thankfully, due to excellent care and a brilliant team of doctors, both his life and legs were saved, and the family is forever grateful for the care and concern shown to Shem and to their entire family by the Orrville EMS/Fire and Police Departments throughout that ordeal. Opening a shop in Orrville, given their special connection to the community, just felt right.

“We will always feel a connection to this community, and when this space became available, it seemed like a perfect fit,” Alyssa Miller said.

In addition to their retail space, which is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the business also has a website at www.salt-honey.com.
