Cloverbud Day Camp introduces youngsters to joys of 4-H
Kids in Holmes County are invited to a couple of days that will introduce kids to the world of 4-H.
Cloverbud Day Camp will take place Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25 at Harvest Ridge from 9-11 a.m. both days. Open to all kids age 5-8 in Holmes County, the event will take place in the Baker Building on the fairgrounds at Harvest Ridge.
Registration is currently open, and more details of the event can be found on the 4-H Facebook page, “HolmesCo4H,” or by calling the office at 330-674-3015.
The camp will be operated by professionals employed by the Ohio State University Extension as well as trained adult and teen volunteers.
The Cloverbuds will participate in many activities such as planting flowers, tie-dying T-shirts, making slime and more.
The extension office’s two new interns, Devin Eckert and Molly Sprankle, are in charge of the event, and they are excited about connecting youngsters with the 4-H program’s ideals.
“It’s important to introduce younger kids to the 4-H world because 4-H offers a lot of things like responsibility and hard work when they are taking projects and introducing them to agriculture and what it means today,” Eckert said.
“From my experience, introducing kids to 4-H at a young age helps get them interested and they will stick with it,” Sprankle said.
She noted that she was introduced to 4-H at a young age and it spurred her on to focus her studies on agriculture. They both hope that having the Cloverbuds experience some fun and worthwhile activities will ignite that same kind of passion in them to continue to pursue 4-H as they grow older.
Ohio’s 4-H Cloverbud program is for youth age 5 and in kindergarten until they reach age 8 and in the third grade.
Cloverbuds explore areas of healthy lifestyle, earth and environment, citizenship, plants and animals, consumerism and family science, science and technology, personal development, and community expressive arts.
The primary goal of the Cloverbud program is to promote children’s healthy development, mentally, physically, socially and emotionally. The Cloverbud program provides an opportunity for every child to reach his or her highest potential because early life experiences, even subtle ones, affect future development.
Registration for Cloverbud Day Camp ends June 19 if participants wish to receive a Cloverbud T-shirt. If applying after that date, registrants are asked to bring their own plain-white T-shirt. The cost to attend is $10.
Harvest Ridge is located at 8880 OH-39 in Millersburg.
