Peace, hope and justice are all hot-button topics in the world today, and the hope is that all sides will come together and find a common ground as those topics are explored.

For Anthony Brown nothing could be more worthwhile than promoting those concepts.

Millersburg Mennonite Church will host an evening of music, peace and hope through a coffee house presentation with distinguished American baritone, Anthony Brown. It will take place Saturday, June 9 at 6:30 p.m.

The coffee house is open to the public and will feature a program titled “Songs and Stories of Peace, Hope and Justice.” Brown will use songs and stories from his international travels to illustrate how music is a powerful tool for bringing people together. Attendees will be encouraged to be promoters of peace and justice wherever they live. This riveting show is bound to engage the audience. A freewill offering will be collected.

Brown is a classically trained singer, international promoter of peace and citizen of the world. Known for his deep rich baritone voice and his clear diction, he has performed in concert halls and fine arts centers around the world. Lauded for his moving performances of spirituals, Brown takes the listener into the world of the music he is singing. Music critiques have referred to him as an “interpretative genius.”

A versatile and dynamic performer, Brown sings in a variety of genres including opera, oratorio, Broadway show tunes, art songs and folk tunes. His performances have been enthusiastically received by audiences of all ages in national and international settings. As a lover of folk songs, he has taken American songs around the world. He often sings the folk songs of the people in the various countries where he performs and invites the audience to sing with him on some selections.

“His story is phenomenal, and his work since I’ve known him as a child has been unbelievable,” Dr. D.J. McFadden said. “He grew up being told he would be no one by the larger community in Pittsburgh and has gone on to bring hope and peace to people throughout the world.”

His work as peacemaker has taken him to political hot spots in Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and across North America. He was specifically sought out to assist in reducing tensions in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Northern Uganda. Perhaps no vocalist of our time has so effectively combined singing with ambassadorial peace building. Through his music he inspires audiences around the world to join the movement for peace, justice and reconciliation.

Millersburg Mennonite is located at 288 E. Jackson St. in Millersburg.
