Cruise-in coming to downtown Wooster June 17
Vintage cars will be on display during the first of two summer cruise-in events offered by Main Street Wooster on Friday, June 17 throughout the streets of downtown Wooster. The event will be centered around the city’s public square, with street closures primarily focused along Liberty and Market streets, according to Main Street Wooster Executive Director Shannon Waller.
“Many of the attendees bring their cars from around Ohio and further, so we’re happy to be able to showcase our downtown to car enthusiasts who might not visit here otherwise,” Waller said. “We weren’t able to hold the cruise-ins in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions, and the people who usually come were extremely disappointed. Wooster is one of their favorite cruise-in destinations because there is so much to see and do beyond the classic cars.”
There is no registration fee taken for the cars, so participants are just invited to start lining the streets downtown at 6 p.m. Ohio-based band, the AirChiefs, will play music from the 1950s and 1960s throughout the evening, and there will be plenty of food trucks onsite.
After taking a year off in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Waller said Main Street was delighted to bring the cruise-ins back in 2021, and the organization is looking forward to continuing the tradition this year with two events — one now to kick off the summer and then one in August to bring it to an end.
“We were delighted to bring the cruise-in back in 2021, and we had great attendance,” Waller said. “My favorite memory from last year is of an Amish couple walking through and looking at the gorgeous, classic cars. It’s a great date night for everyone.”
Not only will there be food trucks, but also many of the downtown Wooster restaurants will offer specials including a variety of cuisine and specialty drinks. Adults also will be able to have their DORA beverages — a designated public area where alcoholic beverages can be purchased in a specific cup from permitted establishments and carried within the district.
Sponsors of the first cruise-in are Buehler’s and Simonson Construction. Further information on the cruise-in may be found at www.mainstreetwooster.org.
