Dover High School class of 1951 holds reunion
A relaxing evening was enjoyed by the 52 members and guests who attended the Dover High School class of 1951 reunion on Saturday evening, Oct. 3. This “in-betweener,” after 58 years, was held in the Plane Country Hangar at the home of Carol and Paul Giannobile, just north of Schneider’s Crossing between Winfield and Strasburg at 5088 Race Rd. Opening the event was a fly-over by pilots from the local EAA Chapter 1077.An invocation was then given by Bob Machan and a memorial for the 35 deceased members was conducted by Mel Dessecker. Many classmates joined in with fond memories of their departed friends. As part of the reminiscing, a large quantity of Mary Zifer’s pizza, rigatoni, and meat balls was enjoyed in addition to a nice variety of beverages, salads, fresh fruits, and ice cream. Vernon Littleton read a humorous poem about class reunions and Paul Giannobile followed by reading a few letters from several classmates who were unable to attend.
Bruce and Shirley Mears contributed three beautiful handmade stands as door prizes. Marie Reed served as a roving photographer, taking numerous photos of everyone present.
All those attending, several for the first time, are eagerly awaiting the 60th year reunion which will be held sometime in the year 2011. A planning committee is now being formed and volunteers are welcome. If interested, contact Paul or Carol at 330-343-3580 or e-mail planeco@msn.com.
