Family finds connections at their library
Sam Morrish is a familiar face at the Tuscarawas County Public Library System, often visiting with his 2 ½-year-old nephew Charlie and 6-year-old niece Amelia. His frequent visits have earned him the nickname “Uncle Sam” among library staff.
Morrish said he appreciates the way library staff engage with his young family members and help make each visit special.
“Charlie will ask for them by name,” Morrish said.
The family regularly participates in Storytimes and weekend activities. Morrish said he enjoys getting to know other parents and caregivers. He also sees the library as an important social space for children to interact with their peers.
He said Amelia often becomes interested in specific topics, and library staff members are able to help her find books and materials to take home.
Morrish also encourages more people to explore the Library of Things collection, which allows patrons to borrow items such as games, tablets and health tools.
“I wish people knew more about the Library of Things,” Morrish said.
He and his family enjoy checking out tablets for educational use, and he appreciates that returning them helps prevent the kids from becoming overly attached to screens.
