No one likes to feel trapped. Unfortunately, many people find themselves stuck in harmful behaviors and circumstances that seem impossible to escape. However, there is hope for those seeking transformation and a fresh start.

On March 14 the Kidron Community Center, located at 4434 Kidron Road, will host an event showcasing life-changing stories of individuals who have been transformed by the love of Christ through the work of Freedom House Alliance. Formerly known as Really Recovered of Wooster, this ministry is dedicated to helping people overcome addiction and rebuild their lives through faith.

The evening will begin with a meal served by donation from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Yoder Family Veal and local churches are providing the meal, ensuring attendees can come together in fellowship before the main program. From 6:30-8 p.m. attendees will hear testimonials from individuals whose lives have been impacted by Freedom House Alliance. The event also will feature music that complements the personal stories of transformation.

Travis Tester, who spoke at the Really Recovered event in 2024, knows firsthand what it means to feel trapped. For 17 years he was caught in a destructive cycle of addiction and incarceration. Tester shared the moment that changed his life.

“I remember one night when I was at my wit’s end. I cried out to the Lord with every ounce of my energy. I got on my knees and asked, ‘Why? Why have these things happened? Why has my life come to this? Why did I have to lose everything?’” Tester said. “In that moment something changed. I surrendered. I told the Lord I was done running, done making the same mistakes. Jesus doesn’t always answer prayers in the way we expect, but he always hears us. That very night I was arrested and taken to the Wayne County Jail.”

While in jail Tester was given a Bible, which he devoured. As he read, his faith deepened, and the Lord continued working in his life. This journey eventually led him to help others find Christ, first through Really Recovered and now with Freedom House Alliance.

The ministry underwent a significant transition in 2024, changing leadership and rebranding to Freedom House Alliance. This shift brought a renewed commitment to integrity, transparency and long-term transformation.

“With a new name and a strengthened foundation, Freedom House Alliance remains dedicated to providing hope, community and lasting change for those seeking a new path in life,” Executive Director Steve Losh said. “We are fully accountable to a committed board of directors, ensuring transparency and the highest standards of integrity in everything we do.”

Freedom House Alliance provides a Christ-centered approach to addiction recovery, offering a safe place for spiritual healing and personal growth. The ministry, which began in Akron in 2016, expanded its services to Wooster in 2020. Through discipleship training, Freedom House primarily serves individuals coming out of incarceration and those without stable housing.

“Our Sober-Minded Homes are more than just places to stay — they are spaces where people find healing, hope and purpose,” Losh said. “Through discipleship and spiritual growth, we empower individuals to create lasting change.”

All proceeds from the March 14 event will support Freedom House Alliance in Wooster, funding essential property improvements, sponsoring beds for clients and ensuring a safe, supportive environment for those in need. Donations also can be sent to P.O. Box 31, Wooster, OH 44691. For more information call Steve Steiner at 330-749-9965.

“We can’t do this work alone,” Losh said. “We invite the community to join us — through financial contributions, prayer or simply spreading the word. Your involvement helps individuals not just overcome their struggles, but step into a life filled with purpose, joy and peace through a relationship with Jesus.”

Freedom House Alliance operates two campuses: one at 2104 E. Lincoln Way in Wooster and another in Akron.
