Garaway Job Fair presents a golden opportunity for those seeking employment locally
It’s always nice when organizations asking a community to get behind their project can reciprocate and give something back.
When Garaway School District began the massive undertaking of raising funds for replacing its football sod with a new turf, they knew it would take a huge effort from local businesses to make it happen.
They got that support, and in return Garaway High School has found a way to give back to some of the businesses that have given financial support for the project.
The upcoming Garaway High School Job Fair is not just for students or individuals living in the Garaway School District, although making connections that close to home certainly could be appealing to anyone in the district.
The 2018 Garaway High School Job Fair is open to anyone who is ready and willing to make a commitment to hard work and doing a good job, and the idea stemmed from the connections the school made with area businesses while the turf project took place.
“We had been working on the new turf project for the football field, and we have had a huge number of area businesses get involved with that,” said Chuck Zobel, coordinator of the job fair. “Throughout that process we had heard from a number of local businesses wondering if we could help them find capable and quality young people to hire. We felt that a job fair would be a great way to give back to them for their support for our school project.”
The job fair will take place Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Dutch Valley Restaurant. There will be two main sessions for the fair. The first will be from 1-3:30 p.m. and will be a session for students seeking employment opportunities. The second session will take place from 5-7:30 p.m. and will be for adults and anyone else in the area seeking employment.
Zobel said they contacted GlenOak High School about its recent job fair and gleaned what they could from their experience in what he said was a terrifically successful job fair. Garaway also got some quality input from teachers, and the job fair is now ready to take root.
The businesses who have committed to the job fair include ProVia, Hummel Insurance Group, Park Street Pizza, retirement communities and a host of other businesses. With a wide array of options from which to choose in the employment market, the possibilities will provide ample opportunities for white- and blue-collar workers.
“We have heard through our local businesses that there are a lot of really great employment opportunities out there right now for people who are ambitious and willing to work hard,” Zobel said. “We wanted to create an avenue for those kinds of people to connect with area businesses.”
There is no registration necessary for the Garaway Local Schools Job Fair, and everyone and anyone is invited to attend, make connections and learn more about exciting employment opportunities in the area.
