During introductions at the Div. III state semifinal game between Waynedale and Liberty Union, and before the National Anthem was sung, those in attendance took a moment of silence to honor Waynedale sophomore Deegan Bee, who passed away in an automobile accident two days prior. Bee's golf bag can be seen on the baseline between Golden Bears Ean Miller (4) and Trey Barkman (22).

Some things are bigger than the game of baseball, regardless of how far as team is in its tournament run. On Thursday, June 9, the Waynedale Golden Bears and Liberty Union Lions took time to pay homage to one of Waynedale's own who had recently passed away.

Before their Div. III state semifinal contest at Canal Park in Akron took place, during introductions, Waynedale starting pitcher Trey Barkman brought a golf bag to the first base line. The bag belonged to his good friend Deegan Bee, who passed away earlier in the week from injuries suffered in a tragic automobile accident.

Before the anthem, the crowd paid a moment of silence for Bee, and the Golden Bears had some serious added incentive to dedicate this game to him and his family.

“It was an emotional moment for us, and especially for Trey,” head coach Lucas Daugherty said. “Our guys definitely wanted this game a little extra, just to honor Deegan."

Bee, 16, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at Akron Children's Hospital after a hard fought battle following his accident on Sunday.

Services will be Saturday, June 11 at 9:30 a.m. at the Mennonite Christian Assembly 10664 Fryburg Rd., Fredericksburg with Pastor Richard Frazier officiating. Friends may call on Friday, from 4-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deegan Bee Go Fund Me Account, https://gofund.me/53a4de67.
