Every year area farmers work hard to put food on people’s tables, oftentimes putting in unimaginable hours while struggling to fend off droughts and anything else Mother Nature throws at them.

It is a difficult and thankless job, but Harvest Glow is a celebration that focuses on thanking them for their hard work while bringing families together to celebrate the harvest season.

The fourth annual Harvest Glow at Harvest Ridge will take place at the Holmes County Fairgrounds on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 from 6-9 p.m.

For the admission price of $4 per night (kids age 2 and younger are free), families can have a good time celebrating the harvest season together. The $4 entry fee will cover all expenses except the food vendors.

“We at Harvest Ridge and the Holmes County Agricultural Society wish all of our area farmers a safe and successful harvest,” Harvest Ridge office manager Pat Martin said. “This is an event where we hope that both our area farmers and our entire community and especially families can come out and experience a relaxing evening of great music, food and fun. People can grab some supper and eat while listening to the bands and have a good time simply enjoying the company of friends and neighbors.”

Don Snow, Harvest Ridge director, said they recognize the incredible amount of time, money and energy area farmers invest in providing for others and said this event grew out of a desire to honor their efforts.

“We know it’s been a difficult summer with the lack of rain, but we know each of them are working hard to do what they can, and we appreciate them,” Snow said. “These are two nights when everyone can come out and enjoy a community event designed to bring people together for some relaxing fun.”

As people arrive at the gate, they will be greeted by two enormous “pumpkins” that will set the tone.

Events during Harvest Glow include a pumpkin glow walk through the carved pumpkins in the Harvest Ridge gardens, hay wagon rides for young and old, bounce houses, food vendors, and a trunk or treat for the kids, where no costume is required to grab a treat bag and experience Halloween fun a couple weeks ahead of schedule.

Between the bounce houses and trunk or treat, there should be plenty for the children to experience.

Friday evening also will feature live music from Mike Gorrell, and on Saturday The Musical Errors will hit the stage.

Both days will feature some yummy products from food vendors including Beach City BBQ, Amish Country Pizza, Brewed Bliss, A & M Donut Trailer and Velvet View Ice Cream.

In addition, while the kids are in the bounce houses, adults may want to spend some time at the vendors tables, where Our Hearts to Home Creations, Tupperware, Norwex, Vintage Rustic Sole, Gable Crest Gardens, Pink Zebra (jewelry and candles), Tyler Eichelberger Woodworking and other fall crafters will have décor for sale. The bounce houses and vendors will be located inside the expo center.

Martin said the event takes the effort of many to put together.

“We want to thank all of our volunteers who help make these evenings possible for our community,” Martin said. “Special thanks to Hershberger’s Farm & Bakery, Paint Valley Equipment, West Holmes and Triway FFAs, and Norman Tipton. This wouldn’t be possible without their support.”

Harvest Ridge is located at 8880 state Route 39, one mile west of Millersburg.
