Help CrossFit Wooster burn some calories for Levi
CrossFit Wooster is more than a place to work out. It is a community, a great big family. And families come together to support one another, which is exactly what the organization will be doing on Saturday, Dec. 16, when it participates in its annual tradition of the Christmas Give event, this year benefiting a very special little boy from the local area.
Calories for Levi’s Courage: CrossFit Wooster’s Special Bike-A-Thon and Workout will raise money to benefit the Buxman family, whose son Levi was recently diagnosed with leukemia.
“This year, we felt it was important to take care of our own, which is why we decided to nominate the Buxman family, with funds specifically going toward the costs for medical treatment and care for Levi,” said Bethany Ream, a CrossFit Level I trainer, head nutrition coach at the facility and co-owner with her husband, Clay. “This year, all our coaches will simultaneously bike for 30 minutes, aiming to burn a total of 3,000 calories. We hope to see pledges roll in as small as 1 cent per calorie that will collectively amount to $1 per calorie, combining fitness with fundraising for one of our most impactful Christmas Give campaigns ever.”
The tradition of CrossFit Wooster’s Christmas Give event began in 2017 when the business’s former owners, Craig and Jessica Nolletti, started the fundraiser. Since taking over ownership in 2021, the Reams have continued this important and meaningful tradition. Throughout the years the gym has participated in the event, Bethany Ream said it has contributed fundraising money to several local causes, including Wayne County Children’s Services, Children’s Advocacy Center, One-Eighty, Christian Children’s Home of Ohio and Liberty Prep School.
The Dec. 16 event will begin at 9 a.m. with Levi’s Workout, a family-friendly, community exercise session that anyone of any age can participate in, and the best part is you don’t have to be a member of CrossFit Wooster to join in on the fun. Children of all ages are encouraged to participate as long as they are accompanied by a parent. Anyone interested in coming to watch and cheer people on is welcome to show up, too. No registration is needed, but dropping by CrossFit Wooster’s Facebook page at CrossFit Wooster and RSVPing is recommended.
At 9:45 a.m., CrossFit Wooster coaches will participate in the Calorie Challenge, where 11 of them will board stationary bicycles for 30 minutes to collect those 3,000 calories to contribute to Levi’s medical journey and “uplift his family, as it’s estimated to be a 2 ½-year treatment plan,” Ream said. “Every pledge, no matter how small, will make a significant impact. Our members are known for their generosity and willingness to take action for others.”
Anyone and everyone is invited to contribute by pledging any amount per calorie to the coaches. Pledges can be made directly at https://pledgeit.org/crossfit-wooster for Levi.
“This fundraiser is a unique opportunity for our community to come together and demonstrate our collective support for a very special little boy, Levi, and his family, the Buxmans,” Ream said. “It’s not often that we have the chance to gather as a group, especially one connected to Levi, and express our care and solidarity. Participating in this event is a tangible way to stand in the gap with the Buxman family, showing them the depth of compassion and support that our community holds for Levi and the Buxmans. Your presence at this fundraiser will speak volumes and make a lasting impact on this sweet family.”
“Courage” shirts are also being sold, with 100% of the profits benefiting the Buxman family. They can be purchased by visiting CrossFit Wooster’s Facebook page and following the link given there.
