Hiland High School Student of the Week
Danny Beachy, 17, is a senior at Hiland High School. He is the son of Marion and Mary Beachy, and is employed at the Berlin Village Inn.Danny attended Indian Hills Christian School and then attended fifth and sixth grade at Walnut Creek Elementary. His favorite teacher was Mrs. Kaufman. “She was the best grade school teacher I had because she allowed us to have a ’70s dance in fifth grade.”
When asked which teacher has made the biggest impact on him, he replied, “I think that Mrs. Jones and Mr. Hamsher have both pushed me to work hard and still have fun. If I could choose any class to be in it would be theirs.”
“My best best moments in school have got to be in Mr. Ryder’s class. We have a lot of fun in that class, especially my sophomore year with all seniors.”
On Danny’s extracurricular activities, “There is no way I could choose whether baseball or soccer were better. I enjoy playing both sports equally. One of my favorite things in the winter though is the musical. I was also in Foreign Language Club last year. I also play indoor soccer for our soccer team.”
In the future, “I really hope to go to college and to do anything with sports medicine or even become a personal trainer. It doesn’t matter to me where I live when I get older, as long as I have family and friends.”
In his spare time, “I enjoy doing many things, like hanging out with my soccer friends, or hanging out with my brothers. I try to stay active though and not miss out on things.” He also enjoys baking cookies and going on adventures with Hilary Weaver and Katelyn Stuckey.
His words of wisdom for younger students are, “‘Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and hearts can do that,’ Norman V. Peale, or “It’s always darkest before dawn, so if you’re going to steal the neighbor’s newspaper, that’s the time to do it.”
“The school funding is probably the only thing I would change about the school system,” is what he replied when asked how he would change the American school system.
“Danny is a hard-working and dedicated individual. I have had the opportunity to work with Danny both in and out of the classroom for six years now and he has always been someone who gives 100 percent to whatever he does. He is a positive leader and a good friend to those around him. Danny is well-rounded and is very active in a diverse group of activities such as worship band at his church, the Hiland musical production, as well as being an important player for the Hiland soccer and baseball teams.”
