The staff at JDM Structures was praised as being the heartbeat of the company by its leaders. Their hard work paved the way for the company to be tabbed as the 2023 Holmes County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau’s Medium Business of the Year.

Every nail, board and panel that goes into creating something at JDM Structures is important to its team because a structure is only as strong as its weakest link, and JDM has built its reputation on building structures that last the test of time.

This past year the company was honored as the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau’s Medium Business of the Year.

At the chamber banquet, presenter Chris Roush of Rea & Associates said JDM Structures has built its business the Holmes County way — through hard work, dedication to perfection and quality, and with good people.

Owned by Daniel Miller, Roush said Miller’s passion for building coupled with the Holmes County-grown work ethic has allowed the company to blossom into a multifaceted business offering a variety of services ranging from small chicken coops to large multistory commercial and residential buildings.

Miller has made it well known that in order to be successful and lead in the community, it is necessary to serve. This servant leadership model has helped the company develop and grow into a leader in the community.

“JDM Structures embodies the servant leadership philosophy in both their outstanding customer service and the positive culture they provide for their staff,” Roush said. “Daniel’s passion continues to drive their business to best serve their customers with innovation, quality products, various sales interaction opportunities and value. Their products and values showcase the very best of Holmes County, making JDM Structures and its team an excellent Holmes County and Ohio’s Amish Country ambassador.”

Patrick Miller, director of people and culture at JDM Structures, accepted the award on behalf of Miller and the entire organization.

He said the company began in a most humble way, when Daniel Miller built a small storage shed in his dad’s backyard with some salvage materials.

“He discovered he had a knack for it, but he also found that there was a lot of opportunity to improve the process and products he was using,” Patrick Miller said.

While Patrick Miller said people tend to think of them as a small structure and shed company, he prefers to view them as a company investing in people.

He said the core of the operation is its building components, where wall panels are built to help create sheds, cabins, garages and custom homes.

The automated nailing system allows the company to build structures quickly and precisely by framing them on a platform so they can build the walls and floors with the panels, which can then be shipped out to build anything from a small shed or a cabin to a home or hotel.

He applauded the entire staff at JDM, where he said they continue to make strides every day toward making the company a success.

He said he is excited for the future of JDM as he thinks about the quality people they have there already and the new additions who will come on board to find their calling and help lift the company to a whole new level.

“We’re committed to doing the slow and steady work of investing in people,” Miller said. “We want to build leaders to see where they take things, across sales marketing, product design and management, crews that go out to build, and our customer care team. I’m excited when I think about the team we will be surrounded by and the way they are going to be investing in people and in customers and creating that type of energy and quality that we are so passionate about creating.”

He said it was an honor to accept the chamber award and praised the many people who make the JDM staff what it has become today. He also said under Daniel Miller’s guidance, the business showcases everything good about Holmes County.

Having grown up in Holmes County only to leave for 20 years before returning, Miller said he is always reminded about how much this community cares about just being human and building relationships and the importance of that in the business world.

He said having spent time away in larger populations, he was touched by the way this community understands that concept.

“I was struck when I moved back to come to JDM and to Holmes County. I was reminded of the beautiful ways this community honors individual human beings and creates opportunities for them to flourish. I see people and businesses who remember how to do life, how to work, to make commitment and build an honest reputation, and to expect the best from one another. You see people flourish and thrive, and it’s a real honor to be a part of that culture at JDM.”

He went on to say the future is bright as they continue to serve the community and surrounding areas, where they will continue to promote the quality and reliability JDM Structures has come to represent to its customers.

As the company motto states, their products are built to inspire, whether it’s a small shed or an impressive hotel.

JDM Structures has built a strong reputation on creating timeless classics with style and strength that are built to last.
