Jordan Trained Wrestling Camp coming to Wooster
Jordan is arguably the No. 1 all-time name in Ohio wrestling, and two members of the esteemed family are coming to Wooster to hold a camp this September.
The Jordan Trained Wrestling Camp will be held at the Gault Recreation Center Sept. 22-24.
Micah and Rocky Jordan will host the three-day commuter camp, which will cost $100 for all three sessions.
Generals varsity coach Brian Teter is thrilled to have the Jordans hosting a camp for the first time in Wooster. Grapplers in kindergarten through 12th grade from any school district are invited to attend and can sign up by emailing Teter at woosterwrestlingclub@gmail.com.
“Frank Read (Gault facilities supervisor, former All-Ohio heavyweight at Northwestern H.S.) was instrumental in getting the Jordans to come to Wooster, and I’m helping organize and run the camp through the Wooster Wrestling Club,” Teter said. “It is awesome that we are able to have Micah and Rocky Jordan come to Wooster to put on one of their nationally recognized camps.
“The Jordan family is one of the most accomplished and recognized names in Ohio wrestling. Jeff Jordan, who’s Micah and Rocky’s father, was a four-time OHSAA state champ and has been running the State Champ Camp for over 25 years.”
The Jordan camps are held annually near their home in Urbana and have produced more than 2,000 individual state champs.
Micah and Rocky Jordan are assistant directors of the State Champ Camp and will be running the camp in Wooster.
Micah Jordan was a four-time state champion at St. Paris Graham High School and a three-time NCAA All-American at Ohio State, placing second, fourth and sixth for the Buckeyes.
Rocky Jordan was a three-time state champion at Graham and a three-time NCAA qualifier. He was a 2020 All-American for the Buckeyes.
Read met the Jordans as a high-schooler.
“Being a former Jordan trained camper, I always looked up to them during my career,” Read said. “After my career ended in college, I’ve always wanted to bring the Jordans to Wayne County to help the younger generation.
“I got in contact with Jeff Jordan and got the process started. Thanks to coach Teter and the Wooster Wrestling Club, this dream is going to happen. I’m ecstatic.”
On Friday, Sept. 22, session one will run from 6-8:30 p.m. Check-in will be from 5-6 p.m.
On Sept. 23 session two will have check-in from 8-9 a.m. and run from 9-11 a.m., followed by a provided lunch from 11 a.m. to noon. Session three will be from noon to 2 p.m. with snack and games from 2-3 p.m., and session four will be from 3-5 p.m.
On Sept. 24 session five will be from 9-11 a.m., followed by a provided lunch from 11 a.m. to noon.
“Having these two accomplished wrestlers travel to Wooster to put on this camp is great for our area wrestlers,” Teter said. “The camp is set up just like the other fall Jordan Trained camps, but at less than half of the cost and in our own backyard.
“This camp will concentrate heavily on takedowns, with a major emphasis on the setup, shot and finish. Wrestlers that attend will be able to continue to improve their craft and prepare for the upcoming wrestling season.”
