Kim Jurkovic, local history librarian at the Dover Public Library and curator at the Tuscarawas County Historical Society, will present a program titled Rising Waters: A History of the Floods of Tuscarawas County Monday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s community room.

The program will explore the history of flooding throughout Tuscarawas County, with a particular focus on the Great Flood of 1913. Jurkovic will share archival images documenting the extensive damage caused by the 1913 flood, which affected not only Dover and the surrounding county, but also much of Ohio. She also will discuss the long-term effects of the disaster including the decline of the Ohio Erie Canal and the eventual establishment of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District’s flood control infrastructure.

Jurkovic was recently honored with the Hero of History Award from the Tuscarawas County Heritage Home Association for her efforts in preserving and promoting local history.

The event is free to attend, but attendees are encouraged to register online at www.doverlibrary.org/events or call the library at 330-343-6123.

The Dover Public Library is located at 525 N. Walnut St. in Dover.
