Knights band will glow brightly at upcoming Band Light Show
It could be said that Steve Butcher’s West Holmes Knights marching band lights it up each time it ventures out to perform somewhere, but on Monday, Oct. 28 the Knights marching band will light up Knights Stadium in a very unique and exciting way.
The 25th annual Band Light Show is set to take place following the inaugural Fright Night Trick or Treat event at West Holmes Stadium, and for fans of the band or great marching band sound, this is one night that shouldn’t be missed.
The band will perform its normal pregame football game routine before the trick-or-treat event, and once that is done, the lights will go off, and the glow lights will go on.
Band members will be covered in plenty of glowing lights, strung to their clothes, their hats and even their instruments.
In addition, there will be a light show that will fill the stadium with a rainbow of luminous colors that will radiate over the band and the crowd. Throw in the fact that the band will hand out glow sticks to the kids in attendance, and it should make for a colorful night filled with passionate music.
“When the lights go off in the stadium, we will light it back up,” Butcher said. “The kids are already buying all kinds of flashing lights and glow sticks to attach to themselves for the show. We always have a good time doing this performance, and it’s a fun one for the fans.”
A local DJ will be on hand to help liven up the light show.
Then the band becomes the light.
The Band Light Show is $2 for adults and $1 for students to attend, with the event serving as a very inexpensive night out for families while also being a fundraiser for the band program.
Butcher said with this being the silver anniversary, it marks a very special performance for the group, and it’s an evening that is highly anticipated by the marching band members and the community.
“I think these types of traditions are the best because everyone looks forward to them so much,” Butcher said. “I know our band kids have been abuzz about this event for a long time, and it’s one they look forward to because it is so different than anything else we do.”
With the West Holmes marching band holding such a beloved spot in the heart of the community, Butcher said it is heartwarming to know his group gets such avid support.
“One thing I absolutely love about this district is people are so supportive of the music programs,” Butcher said. “Some schools aren’t lucky enough to have that type of support, and that’s part of why we enjoy offering evenings like this for the community.”
The concession stand will be open for the event.
