It’s not everyday that a little piece of Hollywood journeys to Holmes County; however, over the past couple of years, a collaboration between UP Entertainment, American Cinema International, Mission Pictures International and Guideposts magazine has brought the filming of their “Love Finds You” TV-movie series (based on inspirational novels published by Summerside Press) in and around Holmes County. Most recently, the series’ latest installment, “Love Finds You in Valentine,” brought together a star-studded cast (including the likes of Ed Anser, Lindsay Wagner, Diogo Morgado and Michaela McManus) into Millersburg and the surrounding areas to film the unexpected love story that unfolds between a fictional California girl and a ranch manager. The film is set in Valentine, Nebraska, which has some similarities to Holmes County. Mark Boley, director of the Holmes County Historical Society, said that some notable local landmarks make it into the film including Windy Hill Farm, historic downtown Millersburg, the Victorian House, Brietenbach Winery, Dr. Dan Miller’s home in Walnut Creek and the Millersburg First Presbyterian Church, among others. “When the crew was filming the previous ‘Love Finds You’ movies, they ended up in Millersburg for a bit and they really loved the architecture of the downtown,” said Boley. “After scouting for filming locations for ‘Love Finds You in Valentine,’ the producers actually re-worked portions of the script to include landmarks in the area.” Boley said that there are a large number of locals who managed to get into the movie as unpaid extras, some of which are members to the Holmes County Historical Society. Due to that, the Holmes County Historical Society obtained a production copy of the movie and will hold a screening of “Love Finds You in Valentine” at the Duncan Theater in Killbuck on April 2 at 7 p.m. for free, with donations being accepted throughout the night. “We’re very excited to be able to host a screening,” Boley said. “Since the movie is going to be a TV-only release, this is the only screening that it will have in a theater, as far as we know.” Boley said that there will be an after-party to follow the screening, during which various local extras will be available for a brief question-and-answer session and will receive various awards such as “most identifiable extra.” “One local man was in there six times,” said Boley, who said that the screening goes along with the society’s overall long-range plan, which focuses on making the organization a truly “county wide” historical society. “We want to bring our programming out into the community,” Boley said. Tickets for the “Love Finds You in Valentine” screening can be reserved by calling 330-674-0022 or emailing holmescountyhistory@gmail.com. Tickets cannot be mailed and will be available at the box office the night of the event. Make sure to include your name, address, phone number and email when requesting advance tickets via email.
