Memories abound at Antique Festival Classic Car Show
Some people may believe that classic car shows are all about the ’57 T-Birds or the ’68 Mustangs, but one of the special things about the annual Darb Snyder Memorial Antique & Classic Car Show and Parade that will take place Saturday, Oct. 8, is that it isn’t all about classic cars, but the memories they elicit.
The 60th Holmes County Antique Festival features many types of fascinating antiques, but none are racier than the sweet rides from past decades, from the be-bopping days of the 1950s, the muscle car days of the 1960s, and even some cars that will transport people back to the days of the Great Depression.
According to event chairman Todd Day, visitors won’t know exactly what kinds of vehicles they might find until they venture into the parking lot on Oct. 8 from noon to 3:30 p.m.
“Part of the experience is that you never know who or what kinds of cars will show up,” Day said. “There’s so many special interest clubs out there who collect all types of cars that are really odd and unique, and that blend really makes it enjoyable to see what shows up.”
Day said they take great pride in honoring Darb Snyder, a long-time classic car enthusiast who oversaw the car show for many years before passing away several years ago. Day said Snyder embodied all the joy and almost youthful exuberance of car collecting and was an inspiration to everyone in the area who collected and showed antique and classic cars.
The show is free for visitors, but the other half of enjoying this event is bringing in a car to showcase. Registration will take place from noon-3:30 p.m. at the Commercial & Savings Bank lots located on Clay St. just north of the main square in Millersburg.
Registration is by donation and refreshments will be available, with all vehicles on display at this location for public viewing.
“One thing we wanted to do with this show was to make it affordable, so we simply ask for a donation from all of our vehicle owners, whatever they’d like to give is fine,” Day said. “As long as we can cover our expenses, the driving force is to create a show where people can share their passion for old cars and give them a chance to come together and swap stories and talk shop. It’s become areal social event.”
Every vehicle will receive a commemorative dash plaque and deadline for judging and parade is 3:30 p.m. Once the car show is over, the vehicle owners will line up for the annual Antique Festival Classic Car and Fireman’s Parade starting at 4:30 p.m.
Participants in the car show are also invited to get more mileage out of the weekend by signing up to be part of the grand parade Sunday at 2 p.m. Registration information will be available during the show on Saturday.
Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place in the following three categories: Antiques, Classics and Special Interest. Additional awards will be presented for Best in 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s vehicles, as well as Best Mopar, Ford and GM, Best Hot Rod, Best Sports Car and Best Truck. Other fun trophy awards will go to farthest traveled and The Darb Snyder Best of Show will also be awarded.
The show is sponsored by Jeffrey J. Kellogg Attorney, with a huge helping hand from the members of the Holmes County Classic Cruisers Car Club, who help Day get everything set up and torn down for the show.
