The Dominic Greco Concert Band, under the direction of Frederick Delphia, will present Music of Italy in performance at the Tuscarawas County Italian-American Festival in downtown Dover. The concert is Saturday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. In the event of rain, the concert will be at Memorial Hall in Dover. Delphia said the theme of the concert would be music of Italy. “Though not all selections will have an Italian flavor, they will maintain the spirit of this wonderful festival,” he said. The audience will get a taste of overtures, opera music and Italian folk songs along with vocal and instrumental solos. Many well-known numbers associated with the Italian musical heritage will headline the program. The concert will begin with “March Virtuoso,” featuring Jeff Huston on trumpet. Rossini’s overture “Signor Brushino” will follow. Virtuoso performers were often featured on concerts presented by the Italian Band as it was known under the direction of the late conductor Dominic Greco. Popular trumpeters Jeff Huston and Corey Swinderman will be spotlighted on Vivaldi’s Double Concerto. Dominic Greco band vocalist Ron Barkett will also be featured throughout this special concert. Audience favorites include a medley of Glenn Miller classics and a sparkling arrangement of the “Pennsylvania Beer Barrel” and “My Melody of Love Polkas.” “We always enjoy playing at the Italian-American Festival and we look forward to this year’s performance,” Delphia said. “This event has special meaning to the band considering its Italian heritage when formed in 1917. It will be an enjoyable evening of some of the finest concert band music.” For more information, visit the band’s website at www.dominicgrecoband.org.
