On Jan. 10 the inaugural meeting of the Apple Creek Historical Society Photography Club was held at the ACHS building on Church Street in Apple Creek. More than 30 people from around Wayne County showed up to express interest in joining.

The Photography Club was first imagined when like-minded hikers Dan Lux and Gary Rogers met one day at Barnes Preserve and began discussing the idea of a local club.

Lux has been involved in similar clubs at The Wilderness Center in Stark County and another in Ashland County and also is a near-daily visitor to Barnes Preserve, where he photographs nature scenes. His work can be seen on the Facebook group, A Walk at Barnes Preserve.

Rogers, past president of ACHS, is always on the lookout for innovative ways to use the new facility in Apple Creek. Both thought this would be a good fit.

Lux is assuming a leadership role in the new club and a teaching role. Joining him will be Paul Keske, who is currently teaching a fundamentals of photography course and a basic Photoshop course at Ashland’s Kroc Center. Keske also is the current vice president of the Ashland Photography Club, a member of The Wilderness Center Nature Photography Club, a presenter and accomplished at printing photos.

The new club is open to all ages and is envisioned as a family activity. It is open to everyone interested in photography and who wants to improve their photos, no matter what equipment they have.

For more information call Rogers at 330-201-1745 or Lux at 207-949-1512.
