OHuddle’s OH-Mazing Race has free tablets for youth
As a part of its 10-year anniversary celebration, OHuddle Mentorship is inviting the public to join for a one-night OH-Mazing Race with the Neighborhood Huddle on Monday, April 15. Registration will be located at the pavilion on the square in downtown Wooster beginning at 6 p.m. The cost is free, and when people register, participants will receive a map to learn about the five kiosks located around downtown Wooster.
Youth and their families will traverse mapped locations in downtown Wooster to interact with the Neighborhood Huddle kiosks to earn a free Android tablet. Kiosk activities will take five to 10 minutes each and practice life skills in the real world. Youth will only need to complete 4-of-5 stops to earn the Android tablet. More than 300 tablets will be available for giveaway on a first come, first served basis that night. Youth must be under the age of 18 to earn a tablet.
Wooster Mayor Bob Reynolds will kick off the event at 6:15 p.m., and the conclusion of the OH-Mazing Race will be at 7:45 p.m. near the courthouse. Youth under the age of 14 will require adult supervision. Preregistration will save time and ensure a better chance of securing a tablet. It can be done at www.ohuddle.org/neighborhoodhuddle.
For those who can’t make it on April 15, any youth can follow the website above to complete all 40 Neighborhood Huddle stops for a prize through OHuddle at any time. Those with questions can email contact@ohuddle.org. To learn more about OHuddle Inc., visit www.ohuddle.org.
Supported by community grants and donors, OHuddle is a school-based mentorship program fostering relationships to Wayne County students.
OHuddle youth visit COW
OHuddle kicked off its first field trip in 2024 with a visit to The College of Wooster for a sports clinic experience. Students and their OHuddle mentors met at the Lowry Student Center dining hall, where they were able to choose from a variety of cuisines and socialize with each other prior to the optional faith-based lesson.
J.J. Cline, a member of The College of Wooster men’s basketball team, shared his faith testimony alongside Pastor John Finn from Oak Chapel Methodist Church.
Afterward, participants were guided to the sports clinic. Mentees and mentors were each able to experience an introduction to pickleball, volleyball and basketball. Each stop featured experienced guest coaches and players including several College of Wooster basketball teammates and former Fighting Scots men’s basketball head coach Steve Moore.
OHuddle is thankful to Oak Chapel Methodist Church for sponsoring this field trip for area youth to experience a college campus visit and be introduced to new sports. Any organization interested in sponsoring or hosting a future OHuddle youth field trip should email OHuddle at contact@ohuddle.org.
