Eight young men from Tiger Cubs Pack 71 of the Killbuck District visited Graphic Publications on Wednesday, Feb. 24. In the process, they learned a little bit about how a newspaper is put together. Troop members got to partake in an impromptu storyboard process, which had them creating and gathering ideas and posting them on a board. The members came up with plenty of fun ideas for their troop, including taking a trip to an Army base for training exercises, visiting a rain forest, where they saw all kinds of animals, before utilizing their Army training skills to battle evil robot animals. They soared into space and then returned to a day camp where they participated in a number of athletic events. After narrowing down their list of about 30 ideas to those four, they created a story, took some pictures and went to the computer, where they created a front page with their story and photo headlining. They then printed out their front page, with enough for all of the scouts to take home. Scouts Aaron Hunsberger, Drew Miller, Zane Stacey, Caleb Gindlesberger, Sean Frontz, Ashton Polley, Austin Wiles, Alexander Sellers, and Derick Breitenbucher, a Webelo, were not only front page news, they created front page news. First-year scoutmaster Terry Frontz, who replaced longtime scoutmaster Ed Flinner this year, said that the troop enjoys getting out to area businesses and functions, noting they have also gone to a Wooster Oilers game and Malabar Farm. “We try to get the scouts out to as many different kinds of experiences as we can,” said Frontz, who has 42 members under his care. “The kids enjoy getting together as much as possible, and we always have a lot of fun when we get together.” Tiger Cubs were participating in a Go See It Activity, in which they are required to visit a television station, radio station, or newspaper office, and find out how people there communicate with others. Eventually, other Go See It events will include trips to a local fire or police station, a hike, and a library or other historical museum in the area. The trip to Graphic Publications was plenty lively, inquisitive and entertaining as the young men scooted from one office to the next as they accompanied their front page from start to finish. “This actually went a lot better than I thought it would,” said Frontz. “It was interesting for the boys, and I think they will enjoy having their own front page to take home with them.” Below is the story the boys put together for their adventure into space, the Army ranks and the rain forest. Tiger Cubs’ best Go See It meeting ever By Pack 71 Tiger Cubs On Feb. 24, 2010, the Pack 71 Tiger Cubs went to train with the Army in the United Republics. They went in order to learn how to better protect their country. The first thing they did was learn how to shoot guns properly. They shot at dummies for fake training, and at Army bad guys. They also practiced shooting at flying aliens. After they perfected their shooting skills, they went and attacked another army of bad guys. They were so talented that not a single scout was hurt, and they won, saving the people of the United Republics. After their victory, they took a breather and went to the Wooster Oilers ice hockey arena at the Wooster Noble Ice Arena. There, they ice skated until midnight. Some of them went on until 8:30 in the morning. From there, the scouts went to visit the rain forest in Africa. There they saw all kinds of animals, including gorillas, snakes, monkeys, tigers, rhinos, elephants, lions, jaguars, and robot animals. The robot animals were built by a scientist. His name was Bob Alien. The robot animals got very angry, and chased the scouts all over the rain forest. Because the scouts were so fast and smart, they easily outran the robots. Scout Zane Stacy, using the knowledge he learned at Army training, took out his rifle, and quickly shot the robots. “I used my high-powered rifle, and was able to destroy 1,000 robots in one second,” said Stacy. Sean Frontz, another scout, also shot 10 trillion robots, and also captured the evil Dr. Bob Alien. After their success in the forest, they went to Day Camp on Mars. There, they had a lot of fun, swimming, playing basketball, football, golf, fishing, ping pong, and skydiving off of skyscrapers. While they were at camp, they also met some friendly aliens. After a full day, they went home, exhausted from their day, but very, very happy.
