QR codes connect print to digital in an interactive experience for readers
Building a community requires sharing. The Bargain Hunter has been doing that for 40 years by sharing stories and information that matter and putting readers in touch with the independently owned local businesses that make the region so unique.
Ever-changing technology makes it easier than ever to reach more people in a manner that entertains and delights them through websites, social media and now through QR codes. QR or Quick Response codes have been popular in Japan for nearly 15 years. They are catching on in the U.S. as more and more consumers utilize smart phones in their daily lives as a tool that goes far beyond the typical telephone.
“We use QR codes for our clients by placing them in ads and in stories,” said Suzanne Moore, Marketing Development Strategist at Graphic Publications, Inc., publisher of the Bargain Hunter. “A QR code is the print link to their digital marketing. It marries them together seamlessly. It can take a reader to a website, a video, mobile app, shopping cart and even a specific product when they use their mobile device.”
There is no limit to how, or even how much, you can share with QR codes. While a video or landing page can easily be shared, the concept can go further by sharing an entire eBook or multiple pieces of content that share a common link.
“QR codes facilitate the integration of print and digital marketing, it is a form of digital couponing,” said Moore. “It drives traffic to the desired end point and also allows the client to track how many visitors have come there via the QR code which in turn gives the client a tracking mechanism for their marketing efforts. The hopeful result is an increase in sales and the growth of their business.”
The potential for QR Codes is limitless. What is even more exciting is how they extend what social media is doing now, bringing more people together with technology and extending it to enhance the experience.
“All ads should include directions to any digital product the client has,” said Moore. “Additionally, it allows readers an interactive experience with the advertiser.”
