Sept. 15 17:10 Market unites local makers, shoppers
Sugarcreek will be awash in local artisans and makers of many different products on Sept. 15, and the community members will be the beneficiary.
The public is invited to participate in an evening of shopping, food and family fun as they explore items showcased by local makers and artisans. Several food trucks also will be in attendance.
On Sept. 15 from 4-9 p.m., the public can experience the sixth annual 17:10 Market, located in the heart of Sugarcreek. The market is set up behind the Sugarcreek Fire Station on Broadway Street, just north of the World’s Largest Cuckoo Clock.
This year’s market will feature more than 45 local makers selling curated collections of handcrafted goods including jewelry, home goods, hand-thrown pottery, fresh baked goods, personal care items and more.
“Not only is this a great chance for people to buy one-of-a-kind treasures, but it also is a chance to meet the people who crafted them with their own two hands,” Jolene Miller of Creative Warehouse Marketing said. “People can get to know the inspired artists who live right here in the community.”
Miller said while the artisans and makers will take center stage during the evening, nothing brings people together quite like food, so there will be food trucks available. The 10 food vendors will serve everything from ice cream to barbecue, coffee and bubble tea.
“This will be an evening for the whole family,” Miller said.
The event will come complete with a petting zoo and a balloon artist for the kids. In addition, when day turns to darkness, Erb’s Stove Center will provide fire pits with campfires Miller said will be perfect for toasting marshmallows.
“One of the things we want to provide is a place for kids to enjoy while parents shop, and the food trucks and fire pits are a great pace for dads to hang out and relax while their wives shop,” Miller said, “although we always have plenty of couples who shop together and make it a great date night out.”
Hosted by the staff at Creative Warehouse, 17:10 Market is an evening of learning about and celebrating small businesses, and Miller said this has historically been an evening full of friends, family, food, love and support.
According to Miller, this event began as a way to help promote and unify small business owners who didn’t have a physical place to sell their wares.
She said the evening allows makers to promote and sell their goods and also gives people a chance to dive into the backgrounds of the artisans, where they can get a sense of what drives each artist or maker and where their passions are leading them.
The event will be under two large tents, with some of the makers setting up booths outside if weather permits.
As for the name 17:10 Market, Miller said the verse from Luke 17:10 that fleshes out humbly serving God by laboring in the duties and with the gifts God has given each person was an important verse to Creative Warehouse Marketing founder Lael Miller.
She said this evening also gives the Creative Warehouse Marketing staff a chance to serve the community in a different manner.
The cost to attend the event is free, and there should be plenty of parking throughout the downtown Sugarcreek area.
