Trail Farm Supply is on the move

The second week of October was an exciting week for everyone at Trail Farm Supply. That is when the business moved from its location in Trail to a new location in Berlin. Trail Farm originated in a small shop on the Weaver family farm back in 1978.
“The production area at the former Trail location was bursting at the seams,” said Weaver. “Our production continues to grow. With this move, we definitely want to continue with the same level of service. We’ve also added more equipment and we’re adding more employees.”
To celebrate the move, Trail Farm Supply is hosting a grand reopening celebration on Saturday, December 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During the open house, customers can enjoy refreshments, view special displays, snag discounts on horse-drawn equipment, shop a year-end sale and enter a drawing for prizes. Winners need not be present at the time of the drawing.
When Nelson Weaver founded Trail Farm Supply, the company concentrated on selling dairy barn equipment only. In 2008, he built a manufacturing facility on the family farm and added custom-made horse and dairy barn equipment to the mix. Eight years later, he relocated the business to the western edge of Berlin to accommodate the company’s growth. The most recent move allows the company and its 12 employees to sell an expanded line of already-made farm supplies as well as manufacture and install custom-made equipment.
The company, which is an authorized dealer of Pioneer equipment, ELS manufacturing (liquid manure spreaders), Pequea manure spreaders and White Horse Machine, offers a wide range of products such as box stalls, headlocks, milking parlors and more. The latest retail space is larger and more attractive than the former one to accommodate established products, such as small milking equipment, and newer offerings, such as electric fence supplies. The retail shop also features a display of barn equipment, so customers can get ideas and see what they are ordering ahead of time.
Farmers from outside the region regularly shop at Trail Farm Supply, thanks to its willingness to ship products to other states.
“Before we build parlors or horse barns, we have a lot of phone conversations to make sure the customer gets what he wants and what’s he expecting,” Edwin Weaver said. “One of the things we offer is installation. We have our own people go out and do that, especially for milking parlors because that’s very customized. We go all over the state to build those.”
Weaver grew up on the family farm with his many siblings. After getting married, he spent 17 years working in gazebo manufacturing. He joined Trail Farm Supply four years ago when his father, Nelson Weaver, decided to reduce his role in the business and expressed his desire to keep it in the family. Father and son spent three years as partners until the younger Weaver bought out his father about a year ago. Today, his father remains a valued employee and, as such, divides his time between measuring and giving quotes on the road and drawing up worksheets in the office.
Trail Farm Supply is located at 5013 Township Road 359, in Millersburg. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The phone number is 330-893-3086.
