Walnut Hills Retirement Community is inviting area families to its Fall Festival and Art Show on Saturday, Oct. 7 in Walnut Creek.

The Fall Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hay rides will be available from 1-3 p.m., and a lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Activity stations will be set up for families to make a homemade apple bird feeder, paint a pumpkin, play Pumpkin Tic Tac Toe or a game of cornhole, and make a paper wreath together. These activities will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A professional photographer will be available during the festival to take complimentary family photos, with reservations suggested.

“We are excited to offer individuals and families a fall photo with the beautiful countryside of the Walnut Creek Valley as the backdrop,” said Jodi Dean, director of marketing. “Our campus and the surrounding area are outstanding when they pop with fall colors, and we are excited to celebrate the season with a fun family day.”

The annual “Creativity is Timeless” art exhibit also will be part of the Fall Festival activities. The art show will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Troyer House on the Walnut Hills campus.

Visitors to the art exhibit will view artwork from a variety of categories including paintings and drawings; photography; quilting, needlework and other soft crafts; woodworking, ceramics and other hard crafts; and miscellaneous arts and crafts items. All of the artwork was created by amateur artists who are age 55 and over and who reside in Holmes County and the surrounding area.

Visitors who stop in at the “Creativity is Timeless” exhibit also will see art demonstrations and will have a chance to vote for their favorite piece of artwork, which will help determine the recipient of the People’s Choice.

“Over the 12 years the 'Creativity is Timeless' show has been hosted at Walnut Hills, there have been almost 900 pieces of artwork displayed by more than 160 artists,” said Paula Miller, community relations director.

All events at the Walnut Hills Fall Festival are free.
