The Wayne County Historical Society, located at 546 E. Bowman St. in Wooster, will host a holiday open house for the public on Friday, Dec. 2, from 4-7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 3, from 1-5 p.m.

Admission is $5 for adults and free for those 18 and under accompanied by an adult. Tickets may be purchased at the 1873 schoolhouse near the Spink St. entrance to the grounds before beginning the self-guided tour. Additional parking is available in the St. Mary’s Church and Drug Mart lots, to the south and west of the historical society campus, respectively.

Each of the eight buildings will feature at least one special exhibit, including a “Holiday Memories” vintage toy pop-up exhibit in the Kister Building and a colorful display of crazy quilts and winter clothing in the dress shop. The Beall-Stibbs House will be decorated for the season as the Beall and Stibbs families would have done in the early 19th century, and Roseanne Anfang will play seasonal music on the period piano in the parlor.

Other highlights include Gerstenslager buggies and a newly acquired Model A Ford in the carriage house, horse-drawn and motorized fire engines from Orrville and Wooster in the firehouse and a log cabin decorated to depict life in 1850s Canaan Township.

This will be the last chance to see many of the current exhibits, as the historical society will close for the season on Dec. 17 and reopen in early March with new displays.
