“I’ll meet you on the hill” is a common phrase to hear during Wooster High School’s annual three week marching band camp. The band’s practice field, which is located at the base of the small hill behind the high school that overlooks Follis Field, is a popular place for band alumni, parents, neighbors and even the occasional curious passerby to spread out a blanket and enjoy watching the band perfect its pregame, halftime and postgame shows. According to Wooster High School band director Dan Adams, the 2011 edition of the Wooster High School Marching Band will debut with a nautical themed show, entitled On the High Seas, which features music from the movie blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean, and theme songs from the hit TV shows SpongeBob SquarePants, The Love Boat, and Hawaii Five-O. In addition to performing during the Generals 2011 season opener against Canfield August 26, and home games on Sept. 9 against Ellet, Oct. 14 against Mansfield Senior, and Oct. 21 against West Holmes, the band will present “the incomparable Script Woo” during the Homecoming game Sept. 23 against Madison. This year the band will also travel to away games in Ashland Sept. 16, Clear Fork Sept. 30, Lexington Oct. 7, and arch rival Orrville Oct. 29. The band rounds out its 2011 performance schedule with appearances at the Wayne County Fair Sept. 12 and at the Massillon Tiger Band Review Sept. 17 before presenting its annual indoor Marching Band Concert Oct. 25. However, the band won’t be hanging up their uniforms for long after football season is over. After a few months off the band will begin preparations for performances at Disney World in Florida over spring break.
